- True North Outfitters and The Gorge Bistro - Hostel, Guide Service and Restaurant
This very climber-friendly place offers European-style hostel lodging as well as private rooms. The hostel is clean, well maintained and has lodge-type charm. Great breakfasts are served every day from 8-10am and dinner is available on Friday and Saturday nights. They also offer showers for cleaning up after a long day of climbing. Included is WIFI internet access and a comprehensive library in a warm, cozy lounging-type atmosphere like one you might find in an upscale Tetons lodge – without the Tetons prices. Take the Pine Ridge/ Beattyville exit (exit 40) off the Mountain Parkway. At the stop sign, turn right and go about a half mile. You'll see the log cabin on your right. The cabin owners are rock climbers, climber-friendly, and avid supporters of Muir Valley. From the back door of the cabin, it is a short hike to the popular climbing crags of “Lady Slipper” and “Emerald City.”
From Lexington, KY, take Interstate 64 East to the Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway, then 33 miles to the Slade exit. The cabin is about 4 miles south on KY11, just off Glencairn Road. Find it at mapquest, click red star on the map.
